Giving Tree: Celebrating 16 years at CHS! The Homeless Prevention Council and the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children are a couple of the organizations that we support. Please take an ornament and return to the tree with the ornament firmly attached to the gift on or before Sunday December 16. The gifts are distributed to the agencies and then have to be delivered to the families – so the timing is imperative! Thank you all so much for your continued generosity.
Adult Christian Education: Sundays from 9 am to 9:45 am. Please join us as we continue our reflective group study of John‘ Gospel, JOHN ONE.
Book Discussion Group: We continue with Nativities & Passions: Words for Transformation by Martin Lee Smith, SSJE. The discussion group is open to anyone at any time. It meets after the 10:00 am service and wraps up around noon. Please come and give it a try.
Morning Prayer Returns to CHS: Beginning December 6, Morning Prayer will be offered every Thursday morning at 8:30 am in the side chapel.
Thursdays at Three: Waiting with Mary – Continuing our exploration of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of our Lord. This special offering will include music, poetry, and other writings, as well as images of Mary from around the world. This very sacred time will be held in the North Transept of the church. Thursdays at 3:00 pm, December 13 and 20.
Advent Quiet Day: December 15 at Christ Church in Harwich Port. Come for a day of quiet reflection in anticipation of our Lord’s birth. Offered by our Pastoral Associate Sarah Kelb. We will start at 9:30 am and have closing prayers and dismissal at 3:00 pm. Carpooling will be available and please bring a bag lunch. All are invited; to register please call 508-255-0433 X21. Eastham-Wellfleet Shepherd Group: Will meet December 16 at 1:00 pm at Libby Pratt’s home, 120 Mill Road, Eastham, for a Yankee Swap.
Fair Trade at Holy Spirit: The Justice and Peace Committee will begin selling Fair Trade coffee, tea, and chocolate hopefully on the 3 Sunday of Advent, December 16. This will probably be in the entry room inside the main entrance to the Parish Hall. Questions? See Fr. Ken.
Stewardship Update: Through Monday, December 3, we have received 152 pledges for $301,574 that includes 10 new pledges. THANK YOU! If you plan to make a pledge card back ASAP. The Finance Committee and Vestry are actively working on the final stages of our 2013 budget and need to know what our income will be. All pledges received will be blessed by Fr. Adam. Homeless Guests at Holy Spirit on Christmas Day: Thanks to the great volunteers from our Overnights for Hospitality team, we will have 4 to 7 men for dinner on Christmas Day and overnight. We plan on giving each man a gift card for use at any stores in the Cape Cod Mall. If you would like to contribute toward the gift please give a check or cash to Fr. Ken earmarked “Christmas Gift.” Checks should be made out to NIA.
CHS Artist: The featured CHS artists for the month of December is the Church School. We are all on the way to Bethlehem. We are all making the journey. We are all getting ready to enter the mystery of Christmas. There are still a few months “open” in 2013 to exhibit/sell your art in the CHS Gallery. Free Shop: We are now accepting clean winter clothing at the Free Shop. If the shop is closed, donations can be left in the container outside the Free Shop door. We are open Mondays from 12 noon to 3:00 pm and Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Galley West: Beginning December 4 through December 23 the Galley West gift shop will be open weekdays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Friday. On Sundays it will be open from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon. Please come in for Advent Calendars and that unusual hand-crafted gift for someone special.
Gentle Yoga at CHS: Please join our morning yoga class. The class is led by Marilyn Greenberg and is suitable for all levels. We will be meeting from 8:00 am to 9:00 am in a church school classroom, downstairs in the parish hall. The class is offered at $10/class. Please bring a blanket, yoga mat, block, and strap. We do have some extras for those who lack the equipment. Next class December 11.
Epiphany Friday Monastic Lunch Series: During the Epiphany season, beginning January 4, bring a salad or sandwich to share lunch on Fridays at 12 noon in the parish hall (beverages provided). We will eat in silence while watching a 20-minute DVD featuring well-known progressive scholars and theologians, Living the Questions. After watching the film we can discuss what we heard with coffee and dessert. Reservations not needed, just show up! Questions? See Fr. Ken.
Our Lady of the Cape on Stony Brook Road in Brewster: invites us all to join them for Christmas Dinner. Dinner will be served at 12:30 pm in the Parish Center. Meals can also be delivered to the homebound. If you wish to attend, please call George Holland at 508-385-2300 by December 19.
