Announcements for January 5-12

epiphanyausMartin Luther King Day Observance – On Monday, January 21 at 12 noon (not 11:30 am as published in the January Together), we are holding an Observance of Martin Luther King Day here at CHS, sponsored by the Nauset Interfaith Association. The Reverend Wesley Williams is the guest speaker and there will be a simple lunch and special music. Please join us!

Church School Upcoming Events: January 6 – Epiphany Trope & Gifts to the Christ Child. Bring an UNWRAPPED toy to be presented to the Christ Child. These toys will be given to children in need in December 2013. Children attend church on Epiphany with their family. After the Trope, the children go to church school.

Adult Christian Education – Sundays from 9:00 am to 9:45 am. Please join us as we continue our reflective group study of John’s Gospel, “JOHN ONE.” January 6, 13, and 20 in the Parish Hall. Drop ins are welcome.

Morning Prayer returns to CHS –  Morning Prayer is offered every Thursday morning at 8:30 am in the side chapel.

Healing Prayers – Healing prayers will be given on fourth Sundays following the 10:00 Sunday service. For January this will fall on the 27th. Frs. Herb Skelly and Bill Huess will officiate with assistance from the Health Ministry.

Men’s Study Group Invites New Members – The Men’s Study Group meets each Tuesday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Sunday School Craft Room. We are currently watching a series of lectures on the Old Testament by Dr. Amy-Jill Levine. We also function as a mutual support group. Thursdays at Three – Kaleidoscope Bible Study and the Lectionary: This community-based Bible study using Lectio Divina involes listening to the same biblical passage three times. In order to go deeper into the text, the reading will come from the previous Sunday’s Lectionary. Join us for this time of divine reading and meditation in holy scripture on Thursdays January 10, 17, 24, and 31 at 3:00 pm in the Parish Hall.

Stewardship Update – Through Monday December 31 we have received 188 pledges for $360,732.00. This includes 13 new pledges. THANK YOU! We still have a ways to go to reach our goals of 413,000. If you plan to make a pedge for 2013, please send your pledge card back ASAP. All pledges received will be blessed by Fr. Adam. If you need a 2013 pledge packet, please contact the Parish Office.

2013 Offertory Envelope Boxes – The 2013 Offertory Envelopes for people who pay weekly or monthly are in the Reception Room. Your 2013 number is likely different than 2012 but we will still track your donations correctly. If you want envelopes please contact the parish office and we will issue them.

2012 Giving Statements – Your Giving Statements are in the Church reception room. Please pick them up and save the church postage. Thank you.

CHS Artist – January’s exhibit is “Free Food for Kids.: This is a lunch program for children run by Ruth Campbell. There are still a few months open in 2013 to exhibit/sell your art in the CHS Gallery. The sign-up sheet is located in the gallery by the exit door.

Free Shop – We are now accepting clean winter clothing. If the Free Shop is closed, donations can be left in the container outside the Free Shop door. We are open Mondays from 12 noon to 3:00 pm and on Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Galley West – Starting January 7, we will be open on Sundays from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon and on Mondays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Guilds will be starting on January 7 as well! Thank you for your support.

Gentle Yoga at CHS – Please join our morning Yoga class. The class is lead by Marilyn Greenberg and is suitable for all levels. We will be meeting from 8:00 am to 9:00 am in a church school classroom, downstairs in the Parish Hall. The class is offered at $10/class. Please bring a blanket, yoga mat, block and strap (we do have some extras). Next class – Tuesday, January 8.

A Very Special Thanks – On Christmas Day we were able to host 7 homeless men as our guests for a Turkey Dinner and overnight accommodations. Special thanks to our cooks, Richard O’Hara and Brian Ridgeway, assisted by John Larner, Sharyn & Tom Laughton, Robin McLaughlin and Sara Fry; our drivers, Dick Anderson and Ragnhild Bjerke; our overnight hosts Stefan Galazzi and Will Chalmers. Fr. Adam also led us in a short Christmas service. Also thanks to the generosity of many of you, we were able to give each of our homeless guests a gift card of $100, each in beautiful cards designed by Sharyn Laughton. A blessed twelve days to all!
