Habitat for Humanity – Apostles’ Build: Are you looking for a way to participate more fully in the ministries of the Church of the Holy Spirit? Or looking for a way to get involved in a Habitat build? In 2013 Habitat for Humanity will be building five houses on nearby Namskaket Road in Orleans. One of the five will be what’s called an “Apostle’s Build,” a collaborative effort funded by a consortium of churches. Church School: There is no Church School at Church of the Holy Spirit on Easter Sunday. Bring the children to church to celebrate the joyful feast of Easter! The traditional CHS Easter Egg Hunt will follow the 10 am service, and all are welcome to join in the fun.
The Angelica Center 2013 Speaker Series at the Church of the Holy Spirit: A very exciting series of speakers at CHS kicks off this month when Barbara Brown Taylor, NYT best-selling author of Leaving Church, joins us here on April 13. Two more talks, also by eminent writers on the spiritual life in its many forms, will be offered over the course of the spring and summer. All talks are on Saturdays at 2 pm in the Parish Hall. Adult Education: Sundays at 9 am – Adult Sunday School sessions will not be held on Easter, March 31. We will pick up with Sharon Inger’s lively series on Women of the Hebrew Scriptures again on Sunday, April 7, and continue this series on April 14 and 21. On April 28, Ruth Campbell will lead a special presentation on “Free Food for Kids,” the exciting ministry she will be offering this summer providing food to young people in need.
Centering Prayer: Silent, meditative prayer is offered in a welcoming group environment every Tuesday from 1:30 until 2 pm in St. Dunstan’s Chapel, located in the lower level of the church. All are welcome. Please contact Nancy Crewdson with any questions at 650-714-1862.
Morning Prayer Rite II: The liturgy of The Daily Office continues to be held every Thursday morning at 8:30 am in the side chapel. The service of Morning Prayer features a focus on the meditative reading of the Psalms, as well as praying with beautiful Canticles.
Thursdays at Three: April 18 & 25, May 2 – All are welcome to join us on Thursdays at 3 pm in the church in the North Transept for intriguing conversation and exploration of a wide variety of topics. On April 18 we’ll discuss The Birthing of the Anglican Church; April 25: The Book of Common Prayer; and May 2: A Celebration of the Eucharist Using the 1559 Prayer Book. Don’t miss these lively and informative sessions!
Luncheon for All the Women of the Parish: The next luncheon for the women in our parish will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013, at 12:00 pm in the Parish Hall. Volunteers for the day are Hope Fox, Barbara Mahoney, Susan Owens, Joan Proctor, and Betty Yearing. Bring a sandwich to share and call Peter Blank at 508-760-1516 if you need a ride. The CHS Youth Group: We will be hosting an intergenerational ping pong party on Sunday, April 14 at 4 pm. Please join us in the Parish Hall for what is sure to be a good time! Questions? Contact Robin McLaughlin.
Outreach Committee: The committee is sponsoring a food drive on April 13, 14, 20, and 21 to benefit the Lower Cape Outreach Council Food Pantries. We will have grocery bags decorated by our Church School children available at each church entrance the week before. Please fill your bag with the suggested food items and bring it back on one of those two weekends. Items needed include canned peaches, canned pears, canned tuna or salmon, Spaghetti-O’s, pancake mix, peanut butter, jelly, hand soap (bars), and paper towels. Planned Giving: During the Month of April, members of the Planned Giving Committee will be available in the Parish Hall to answer your questions related to Planned Giving. Information about how to create a Family Legacy Plan and what Charitable Gift Annuities are all about will be available. During the month of April, please remember to stop by the table after the Sunday 10 am service and talk to the members of the Planned Giving Committee.
CHS Artist: For the month of March in the Gallery/Reception Room, Father Adam has selected some of his favorite books from the CHS library – for adults and children. Just unclip the book, sit, read and enjoy!
Free Shop: We are now gladly accepting clean Spring clothing – please no more Winter clothing. If the Free Shop is closed, donations can be left in the container outside the Free Shop door. We are open Mondays, from 12:00 to 3:00 pm and Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Galley West: We are open on Sundays from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm and on Mondays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Guild is in full swing as well! Thank you for your support.
Welcoming Committee: These Sundays are some of the most important days of our holy year. We will have new friends joining us for all services. Please make everyone feel welcome by helping them find a place in your pew and sharing a prayer book or a hymnal. You might also extend an invitation to them to join us for coffee hour.

Quilters: The Church of the Holy Spirit will present a staged reading of the play Quilters on May 3, 4, 10, and 11, including matinées on Saturdays, May 4 and 11. The play features seven quilters discussing life events, some of whom will be CHS parishioners. We are pleased that Linn and Ron Jacoby (Belle of Amherst) will direct and produce the play. April Together deadline: The deadline is Monday, April 8. We are trying to keep to the new 8-page standard, so please submit brief articles that cover events and news relevant to the coming month, or very early the following month.
Summer Fair: We will be holding our very popular Summer Fair on Saturday, July 13 from 9-3, rain or shine. Everyone in the parish is encouraged to come, participate, and help.
