A Word From Our Rector – April 2013

Adam LintonDear Friends,

Alleluia! Christ is risen!

This month’s message will be to the point. For some time, we’ve been mentioning our very special Angelica Center Speaker Series for this year. It’s more than special, really. These are truly world-class Christian thinkers and writers. They each have much to say about the engagement of faith with our contemporary world. Each in their own ways, they speak directly and powerfully. We’re remarkably fortunate to be able to bring them to the Church of the Holy Spirit.

By the time that most of your receive this month’s newsletter, the visit of our first speaker will be less than two weeks away.

Barbara Brown Taylor will be speaking at the Church of the Holy Spirit on Saturday, April 13, at 2:00 pm. The title of her talk is “Learning to Walk in the Dark: Faithful Unknowing.”

Tickets are available for a suggested donation of $20. (The suggested donation for all three speakers in the Angelica series is $50.) However, I want to stress that we don’t want anyone to stay away because of cost! Nevertheless, because seating is limited we do ask people to reserve tickets ahead of time. (We cannot guarantee that tickets will be available “at the door.”)

To reserve your tickets please call or email:

You’ll find further information on Taylor in various places in this month’s issue of Together. I’ll highlight, here, that she is an outstanding speaker not only for those active in church, but also—especially—for those seeking their way in the Spirit, but not at all sure about the institutional religious thing. So I’d invite us to think of a friend that we might like to bring. It would be a great blessing, I am sure.

And don’t forget our next two following speakers, Kathleen Norris on June 8 and Walter Brueggemann on July 27.

Much looking forward to seeing you there. Yours in the Risen Christ,
Adam +
