Announcements for December 14-21

Advent 3Sunday, December 15: Adult Education, at 9 a.m. – Parish Hall. We continue with our series on Dallas Willard’s Renovation of the Heart. It is not necessary to have attended the previous sessions to participate in these. We watch a short video presentation by Willard and then open things up to reflection and discussion. NOTE: We will not be holding the Sunday 9 a.m. Adult Education on either December 29 or January 5.

Sunday, December 15: Advent Lessons and Carols – 10 a.m. Service. Our Advent Service of Lessons and Carols is taken from The Book of Occasional Services. It consists of five Advent lessons, interspersed with appropriate Advent hymns, Choir Anthems and instrumental music (Bell Choir/Organ). The entire service will be similar in length to our regular 10 a.m. service. We look forward to having you, friends, and family join us on Sunday, December 15, as we journey to Bethlehem.

Sunday, December 15: Book Discussion Group – after the 10 a.m. service in the Fireplace Room. Continuing discussion on Lauren Winner’s book Still: Notes on a Mid-Faith Crisis.

The Galley West Gift Shop is having a SALE – Sunday, December 15: THIS SUNDAY ONLY! The Galley West Gift Shop is having a SALE on our 3 piece knife set: $12. – regularly $15. These are wonderful knives and make a great gift! The Galley West Gift Shop is your best place to find gifts for your whole family for the holidays. The Gift Shop will be open weekdays through December 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Fridays and on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Sunday, December 15: Shepherd Groups – Brewster/Dennis Group is not meeting this month. Eastham/Wellfleet Group at the home of Fay and Ike Cole, 180 Hay Road, Eastham, at 5 p.m. Call if you need a ride. Orleans Group is not meeting this month.

Wednesday, December 18: Men’s Lunch at 12:30 p.m. There will be a Men’s lunch meeting in the Fireplace Room. Coffee and snacks provided. Members bring sandwiches. Leaders Brian Skea and Bruce Lederhouse.

Thursday, December 19: Thursdays at Three – Continuing for the first three weeks of December, an Advent series will be offered. This series: Art, Spirit, and Incarnation will include Eliza- beth Pratt presenting on the spirituality of art through time. This program will be displayed in the same sacred space as last year’s Waiting with Mary series, with the large fabric screen at 3 p.m. in the north transept of the church.

Friday, December 20: Walking the Labyrinth – 10 a.m. Parish Hall. Margaret Rappaport will facilitate the monthly indoor labyrinth walk in the Parish Hall. The labyrinth will be available for individual walks from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. that day. For more information on this ministry contact Margaret at

The Reverend Sarah D. Kelb’s Ordination to the Priesthood – You are Invited! On Saturday, January 4, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Boston. Please sign up this weekend in the Reception Room for a seat on the bus. There will be a suggested donation.

CHS Artist: The featured artist for the month of December is Cynthia Murray. Come see Cyn- thia’s wonderful collection of nativity sets. Grocery Cards: Please help end homelessness on Cape Cod by purchasing grocery cards from Stop and Shop, Shaw’s and Friends in $200, $100, $50, and $25 amounts. The merchants will donate 5% of your purchase to The Homeless Prevention Council, located in Orleans, and you receive full value of your card. You can buy these after church in the Parish Hall.

Stewardship: 2014 Pledges – Through Monday December 9, we have received 160 pledges for $328,000. including 83 with increases over 2013 and 7 new pledges. THANK YOU! If you have not sent in your 2014 pledge, please do so as soon as possible. The Finance Committee and Vestry continue to work on our 2014 budget and our pledge income is a critical element of that process. If you need a pledge card please contact the parish office.

A WALK IN JERUSALEM: On the five Fridays of January, Fr. Ken will lead a book study of Mark Braverman’s new book, A Walk In Jerusalem, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. in the Library. Bring a sandwich or salad, coffee and tea provided! It is necessary to pre-register with Fr. Ken. We hope to have a few folks participating who have recently returned from the diocesan pilgrim- age to Jerusalem. Please pre-register with Fr. Ken as soon as possible!
