ALL SAINTS SERVICE – Remembrance Forms The ushers will have these forms available this weekend (October 11 & 12) and next weekend (October 18 & 19). If you would like to have your loved one remembered at our All Saints Service on November 2, please fill out the form and place it in the offering plate. Deadline, Thursday – October 23.
Nominating Committee 2015 is up and running. Members are Wes Dreher (chair), Amy Corcoran (Spiegel), Gilbert Merritt, Meredith Perkins, and Cynthia Wieboldt. Positions to be filled on Sunday at the next Annual Meeting’s elections (Sunday, January 25, following the 10:00 o’clock service) are: one Warden for two years, a Treasurer and a Clerk each for one year, and four Vestry members for two years. Those with ideas or interest are encouraged to contact a Nominating Committee member.
Acolytes. Every Sunday at 10 a.m. our priests, their assistants and the CHS choir enter the church to start our main service of the week. But did you ever notice they are led to the altar by our own young people? These are our Acolytes, and now we have an opportunity for your students (grade 3 to 12) to join them. Sunday, October 12: Adult Sunday School, 9 a.m., Parish Hall – Now through November 2 -“Beginning with Barth (Again)” We pick up again with the good Doctor Karl, as he works his way incrementally through the Apostles’ Creed. No homework required – but those who wish to read beforehand may do so. Jump right in with us; the water’s fine!
Sunday, October 12: Book Discussion Group – after the 10 a.m. service in the Fireplace Room. We are discussing Barbara Brown Taylor’s book, Learning to Walk in the Darkness. All are welcome.
Sunday, October 12: Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod – HEART & HOME CABARET – 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 205 Old Main Street, South Yarmouth. Enjoy an evening of performances hosted by nationally acclaimed singer, songwriter, and recording artist David Roth. Tickets $25. per person. Wednesday, October 15: Men’s Lunch Group – This Group will renew meeting on every third Wednesday of the month from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. The October 15 meeting will be held in the Library as opposed to the Fireplace Room. The purpose of the men’s lunch group is to provide a forum where men of the parish can meet together informally for lunch and general collegiality. Thursday, October 16: Thursdays at Three – This series of four will be a set of reflections with Father Adam on key areas of our common faith life. Each session will begin with a short presentation of his and will then open up to broader group conversation. The point will not be to debate, but to share—from our core—as Rector and parish, different ways that we connect in our life together.
YOUTH CHOIR: It has been the custom for a Youth Choir to sing at the Church of the Holy Spirit Christmas Eve service. The opportunity to do so again this year is available. Beginning the first Sunday in October (10/5), and continuing on the first and third Sundays of each month, we will be rehearsing in the church immediately following the 10 a.m. service. Friday, October 17 and Saturday, October 18: FALL RUMMAGE SALE – The date is set and sign-up posters are located in the Reception Room and in the foyer in the Parish Hall by the choir room. Scheduled drop off times for your treasures are as follows: Tuesday, October 14 (12 noon to 3 p.m.); Wednesday, October 15 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.); Thursday, October 16 (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.); and Friday, October 17 (9 a.m. to 12 noon). Your help is especially important and we can find jobs for everyone!
Sunday October 19: CHILDREN’S SABBATH CELEBRATION – “Precious in God’s Sight” at the 10 a.m. Eucharist, favorite F4K summer bag lunch to follow in the Coffee Hour! No church school, children attend church with their families. Regular Nursery care provided.
