STEWARDSHIP: The 2016 Pledge Packets were mailed in early October. If you did not receive one, please contact the parish office. Through December 21, we have received 161 pledges for a total of $323,718. 2015 Pledge payments must be received by Sunday, December 27 to be included in your 2015 giving statement. Statements will be produced by January 15, 2016. 2016 OFFERTORY ENVELOPES BOXES – For pledges being paid on a weekly or monthly basis are available for pick up in the Reception Room. Please take your box and save postage.
Sunday, December 27: No Church School classes. Little Drummer Boy video for all ages in the Gathering Room at 10 a.m. Nursery care is available. January 3: Epiphany Trope – bring your gift to the Christ Child (an unwrapped toy). These gifts will be delivered to the Cape Cod Council of Churches in December 2016 for needy families. After the Trope, children go to the CHS Library for story & treats! Nursery care is available.
Wednesday, December 30: AN HOUR OF ENCOURAGEMENT 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the side Chapel in the Church. Emerging from our series on Julian of Norwich, a group has begun meeting each Wednesday. The content and format varies from week to week and may include readings from authors like Julian probing spiritual matters. All are welcome to join at any time and bring guests to participate in this intimate time together with the Lord.
Friday, January 1: New Years Day – The Church of The Holy Spirit will present a reading of the entire Gospel according to John. Members of the church will participate in reading a chapter at a time. The presentation will begin at 10 a.m. on January 1 and will last until 12:15 p.m. There will be two brief intermissions. There will be no sermon or offering. All welcome.
Sunday, January 3: BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP: Our next meeting is on Sunday, January 3, 2016 after the 10 a.m. service in the Fireplace Room. We will begin discussing Chapter 1 of James Carroll’s Christ Actually.
Friday, January 8: WALKING THE LABYRINTH – 10 a.m. in the Parish Hall. The Labyrinth is a spiritual walking exercise that quiets the mind, opens the heart and centers the body to en-courage meditation. Margaret Rappaport facilitates a walk on our indoor canvas Chartres-style Labyrinth. Theme: True Peace. The 10 a.m. walk is candle-lit and is accompanied by music courtesy of Darlene Hagon. The labyrinth is available for individual walks from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Parish Hall.
Saturday, January 9: Elizabeth (Libby) Pratt’s funeral service will be held here at the Church of the Holy Spirit at 11 a.m.
Thursday, January 14, 2016: GETTING TO KNOW YOU – Parish Pot Luck Supper at 5:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Hosted by the Welcoming Paths Team: Sign up sheet in reception room. Pot Luck assignments: A – H, main course dish; I – M, side dish; N – P, salad; Q – Z, dessert. Music by our favorite DJ, Bernie Hutchens, playing all your favorites.
Friday, January 15: BOOK STUDY: Fr. Ken will be facilitating a study of Walter Brueggemann’s new book: Chosen? Reading The Bible Amid the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict. The study will take place on four Fridays at 12 Noon in the Parish Hall, beginning January 15 (bring your lunch). See Fr. CHS ARTIST: Featured in our CHS gallery for the month of December is a collection of Children’s Christmas Books. Cynthia Murray and Ruth Campbell have for many years collected favorite Christmas stories used in classrooms and church services in Episcopal Churches. Enjoy this display in the Reception Room. HELP WANTED: WEEKEND SEXTON
As you may have heard, Bob Marks, weekend sexton, has left to take care of family matters in PA. He will be sorely missed – a hard act to follow. Don Bragdon has agreed to cover Sunday duties for us until we find a permanent replacement for Bob. BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP. If you know of any-one who wants a part time weekend job, 8 to 16 hours, providing custodial coverage and backup as needed, please contact Kate Paradise at 774-207-0435.
