NOMINATING COMMITTEE FOR VESTRY – 2019
The Vestry has formed the Nominating Committee, and given it its charge in preparation for the Church of the Holy Spirit’s next Annual Meeting, to be held February 2019.
Appointed to the Committee were: Chip Bechtold, Judy Gardiner, Gilbert Merritt, Anne Moronta, and outgoing Warden Rick Paris. At the Annual Meeting, the parish will elect one Warden for a two-year term, a Treasurer and a Clerk, each for a one-year term, and five Vestry-at-large members, four for two-year terms, and one for a one-year term.
The Convention Delegates/Deanery Assembly Representatives and Alternate, and two delegates to the Cape Cod Council of Churches were elected last year for two-year terms and will serve their second year in 2019.
Anyone interested in making suggestions for the open 2019 positions is encouraged to contact a Nominating Committee member.
CHS Artist: The featured CHS artist for the month of September is Gail Binney-Sterne. Included in her show marking the 85th Pentecostal birthday of this very special spiritual “HOME” is Gail’s gift to the Church of the Holy Spirit, a quilt entitled GATHERED IN HIS NAME. Sunday, September 2 & 9: ADULT EDUCATION – In the Fireplace Room at 9 am. We will be finishing 8 Habits of Love, focusing on the chapter of Forgiveness on September 2 and chapters of Compassion and Community for September 9.
Sunday, September 2 and 30: YOUTH SUNDAY BRUNCH – There will be 2 Brunches in September on 9/2 and 9/30. Please join us after the 10 am service in the Parish Hall.
Tuesday, September 4: READING FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH ON TUESDAY MORNINGS – The “Tuesday Study Group” has a new name: Reading For Spiritual Growth. We meet in the Parish Library twice a month on Tuesday mornings at 10 am to discuss books related to our spiritual journeys. Come join us! On September 4 we will re-convene to begin to discuss Amy-Jill Levine’s Short Stories by Jesus, reviewing Jesus’ parables. Wednesday, September 5: CHOIR NEWS – The Church of the Holy Spirit Choir Wednesday rehearsals resume on September 5 at 7 pm in the church. If you have an interest in joining us, this would be a great time! We have some special projects for the fall and would love to welcome new faces. Thursday, September 6: LADIES’ LUNCHEON – September 6 is the first Thursday of the month and we will meet in the Parish Hall at 12 Noon. Bring a sandwich to share, and all the rest will be provided. Our committee for September is: Pat Carroll, chips; Sue Stevens, paper goods; Georgia Schneider, juice; Fay Cole, table decorations; Jane Affleck, lemon and half & half; and Dilys Smith, dessert. Remind each other with a call or text, and talk it up with friends. Hope to see you there.
Sunday, September 9: CHURCH SCHOOL BEGINS – Registration is live on the CHS Website holyspiritorleans.org – click on Church School to REGISTER NOW! Veggie Tales Theater is available for children during the 10 am service until then. You can still SIGN UP ONLINE for the BCH Camp weekend Oct 6-8. We have over half the funds needed for the trip. Please help us raise the remaining $4,000+ by participating in these fundraisers: CAR WASH at First Citizens’ Bank, Skaket Corners – Saturday, September 8 at 1 pm. And A PARISH-WIDE (children and adults) TALENT SHOW and Spaghetti Supper, Friday September 21 at 6 pm in the Parish Hall (sign up sheet in the Reception Room).
Friday, September 14: LABYRINTH WALK at 10 am in the Parish Hall. Our next labyrinth walk is an invitation to slow down, to relax, to recharge and take some time for ourselves. Walking the labyrinth with the intention to just “be” can help us move into the fall with fresh eyes and hearts, open to what may come next. Come walk with us and take some time to let the labyrinth be a healing and restorative place for you. Gail Smith+
Sunday, September 16: The Book Discussion Group will be resuming in September in the Fireplace Room after the 10 am service. We will be finishing “Living Jesus” by Luke Timothy Johnson, reading Part 2, Chapters 7 to 12, during these three weeks of September. We hope to begin a new book in October. Brooke and Brian Skea
Saturday, September 22: ALI SANDS SPEAKS OUT ON YOUTH HOMELESSNESS, at 2 pm in the Parish Hall. Author of the book I Know Who You Are but What Am I?, Ali will speak on her personal journey of self-discovery, issues that affect LGBTQ youth, how they relate to youth homelessness and what we can do to prevent it. FREE SHOP: The shop is gratefully accepting FALL clothing. We are open Monday: 12 Noon to 3 pm and Wednesday: 10 am to 1 pm.
