Announcements September 29 – October 5


The Vestry has formed the Nominating Committee, and given it its charge in preparation for the Church of the Holy Spirit’s next Annual Meeting, to be held February 2019.

Appointed to the Committee were: Chip Bechtold, Judy Gardiner, Gilbert Merritt, Anne Moronta, and outgoing Warden Rick Paris. At the Annual Meeting, the parish will elect one Warden for a two-year term, a Treasurer and a Clerk, each for a one-year term, and five Vestry-at-large members, four for two-year terms, and one for a one-year term.

The Convention Delegates/Deanery Assembly Representatives and Alternate, and two delegates to the Cape Cod Council of Churches were elected last year for two-year terms and will serve their second year in 2019.

Anyone interested in making suggestions for the open 2019 positions is encouraged to contact a Nominating Committee member.

CHS ARTIST:  The featured CHS artist for the month of September is Gail Binney-Sterne. Included in her show marking the 85th Pentecostal birthday of this very special spiritual “HOME” is Gail’s gift to the Church of the Holy Spirit, a quilt entitled GATHERED IN HIS NAME. Please come and see her creative talents on display! If you are an artist who would like to display your art at CHS, please sign up for a month in 2019. A sign up sheet is posted in the Gallery. INQUIRERS CLASSES:  Led by Adam+ and Gail+, will be held on Wednesdays, October 10, 17, and 24, at 5:30 pm, in the church.  Sessions are open to all, newcomers and those who’ve been around for a while! This series of three will provide a brief, interactive overview of the Episcopal Church; who we are, what we do and believe. No homework; just come. Sessions will conclude at 6:40.

Sunday, September 30:  ADULT EDUCATION –  in the Fireplace Room, 9 am.  We have resumed our series, working our way through Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians.  This is a lively, interactive Bible study, led by Adam+.  No homework required!  Just come, in spirit, mind, and heart.

Sunday, September 30:  The Book Discussion Group – in the Fireplace Room after the 10 am service. We are finishing “Living Jesus” by Luke Timothy Johnson, reading Part 2, “Jesus in the Gospels,” reading Chapters 11 and 12. Brian and Brooke Skea

Sunday, September 30:  YOUTH SUNDAY BRUNCH – This is our second Brunch in September on September 30. Please join us  after the 10 am service in the Parish Hall.

Thursday, October 4:  Ladies Luncheon – The committee for our October luncheon is as follows:  Ginny Lucil, Chips;  Betty Yearing, Paper goods;  Betsey Mason, Table Decorations;  Georgia Schneider, Juice;  Jane Affleck, lemon and 1/2 and 1/2. Joan Proctor and Pat Carroll will bring dessert. Circle the date on your calendar and join us. Bring a sandwich to share and those crunchy chips we all look forward to, will be waiting for you on the table!

Friday, October 12 & Saturday, October 13:  RUMMAGE SALE:  Friday:  4 pm to 7 pm and Saturday: 9 am to 12 Noon. Keep saving those much needed donations for this popular sale. DONATION DROP OFF AT THE PARISH HALL BEGINS Tuesday OCTOBER 9, please see your Together Newsletter for more information. We CANNOT ACCEPT TV’s, computer equipment, luggage, LP records, food, live plants, golf or ski equipment. Many helping hands will be necessary to make this year’s sale a success! FREE SHOP:  The leaves will be falling soon and turning color.  Your FALL clothing donations will be most welcomed. No more summer clothes, please! We are open Monday: 12 Noon to 3 pm and Wednesday: 10 am to 1 pm. Donations can be dropped off during shop hours or placed in the box outside the shop door any time the parish hall is open. HEALTH MINISTRIES COMMITTEE:  October is domestic violence month. This is not an easy subject to discuss or hear about, but one we all need to be aware of. Can you identify elder abuse? Please stop by our table to learn more. Additionally, on Sunday October 14 from 11:30-12 Noon, we have a speaker coming to share information and insights. Chris Morin will join us in the Parish Hall, please come for this short but important presentation.

Holiday Bazaar Food Table WORKSHOPS:  Join Cynthia Murray & Cris Harter in the CHS kitchen on one of the following dates and help us make items that we will package and sell at the bazaar Food Table.  Supplies to make items will be provided… we just need YOU! Wednesday, October 3, 9 am to 12 Noon, Wednesday, October 17, 6 pm to 9 pm, Wednesday, October 31, 1:00 pm to 4 pm. Sign up sheets are on the Reception Desk and in the Parish Hall. Friday, November 23 & Saturday, November 24:  SAVE THE DATES – HOLIDAY ANTIQUES SHOW AND SALE – It’s hard to believe that our plans are underway for the 41st Annual Antiques Show and Sale to be held on Friday, November 23, from 10 am – 4 pm and on Saturday, November 24, from 10 am – 3 pm in the Parish Hall. There will be 25 dealers from the New England area offering you a wide range of choice antiques to choose from. We hope you will be a PATRON of this special tradition at The Church of the Holy Spirit by responding to the letter you received. Monies raised support our parish programs.  Questions?
