Announcements September 28 – October 4

Sunday, September 29:  SHEPHERD GROUPS & EVENSONG – All Shepherd groups will meet together at a celebration of St. Michael and All Angels in a Choral Evensong  at 5 pm. Bring your friends and join us first in the church for Evensong, (this is open to everyone, not just Shepherd Group participants) and then in the Parish Hall for a reception, with heavy hors d’oeuvres and light finger foods; hosted by the CHS Shepherd Groups. Beverages will be provided. Please come and join us for fellowship in the Parish Hall after the service.

STEWARDSHIP TIME 2020…OUR TIME: It is Stewardship season at the Church of the Holy Spirit.  Letters and Pledge Cards have been mailed to every household. If you not have received your mailing, please contact the Church Office and one will be mailed to you or pick one up on the desk in the Reception Room. With each of us making a Pledge, we can continue the vital and varied ministries of the Parish. Receiving all Pledges by the first Sunday of October would be very helpful as next year’s budget is planned. They may be returned by mail, offering, or to the Church Office. Thank you!

Sunday, September 29:  BOOK DISCUSSION GROUP – The Fall season of the Book Discussion Group has begun, in the Fireplace Room after the 10 am service. We continue reading chapter 1 of Richard Bauckham’s Bible and Mission. Brian and Brooke Skea

In honor of St. Francis, we have a bulletin board in the Parish Hall with pictures of your pets. Please check it out and enjoy all of our furry friends!

Thursday, October 3:  Ladies Luncheon – Come to the Parish Hall at 12 Noon and bring a sandwich. We cut them up and plate them for all to share.  Beverage, chips, and dessert are provided. The committee is: Chips; Ginny Clarendon, Half & Half; Jane Affleck,  Decorations; Gail Binney Sterne, Paper Supplies; Sandy Marshall, Dessert; Joan Proctor.

Friday October 4:  St. Francis Labyrinth Walk The walk begins at 10 am and the labyrinth will remain up until noon.

Sunday, October 6:  Youth breakfast – After the 10 am service in the Parish Hall, please join us for another wonderful brunch prepared and served by our youth group. October’s Menu:  Individual Omelets, Ham, Wheat Toast, Fruit & Juice, Coffee Tea, $8 per person;  Children under 18 are free.

 Sunday, October 6:  Blessing of the Animals at 3 pm in the Parish Hall.

CHURCH SCHOOL NEWS:  The 2019-2020 Church School Year has begun!  SAVE THE DATE –  Friday October 18 – Pumpkin Carving – details and sign up are on Church School and Youth Group Bulletin boards. Plans are underway for a Middle School Retreat (5th – 9th Graders) November 15-17 at the Barbara Harris Camp in Greenfield, NH. These retreats are always great fun. Interested? CHS HEALTH MINISTRIES:  Cape Cod Healthcare is providing a free service to groups interested in learning how to make the plans we may all prefer to ignore: Advance Care Planning. Learn how to start the conversations, identify a healthcare agent,  and more. Please plan to attend Sunday, October 6 after the Youth Brunch and listen to this informative session given by a  speaker from Cape Cod Healthcare. Ann Pike-Paris and Meg Nemitz, co-chairs

CHS FEATURED ARTIST: The Gallery display for September showcases Ruth Campbell’s favorite children’s stories in which a biblical passage was more clearly understood and illuminated for Ruth. Children’s books are for grownups too! Come by, read a story to see and hear what Biblical message you find. FREE SHOP: Your Fall clothing donations are most welcomed. We are open Monday: 12 Noon to 3 pm and Wednesday: 10 am to 1 pm. Donations can be dropped off during shop hours or placed in the box outside the shop door any time the parish hall is open. Needed –  paper shopping bags with handles, the Free Shop has gone green! READING FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH has resumed. We meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the Library from 10 am to 12 noon. We are discussing Holy Envy by Barbara Brown Taylor. If you would like to join us call Sandy Marshall, 508-255-9971 or svm2@comcast.net.

HOLIDAY BAZAAR:  SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2 – SAVE THE DATE! It’s that time of year again! There are many ways you can support this popular and successful fund raising parish event. Gently Used Jewelry: We welcome “good costume” or “fine” jewelry donations.  Drop off box is in Parish Office. Clearly label these donations so we can price them properly in advance of the bazaar. Volunteer sign up and other donation drop offs will be in October. More information will be available as we get closer to the date! Sue Sasso & Priscilla Isner.  If you are making jams, jellies, chutneys, pickles, etc., for the HOLIDAY BAZAAR, please save a jar or two for the bake sale. SAVE THE DATES – 42nd ANNUAL HOLIDAY ANTIQUES SHOW AND SALE: Plans are again underway for the 42nd Annual Antiques Show and Sale to be held on Friday, November 29, 10 am – 4 pm and on Saturday, November 30,  10 am – 3 pm in the Parish Hall.
