Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper

pancakesThe annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper will be held this Tuesday,¬†February 12 at 5:30 pm. Join us for some good food, good fun, and even a fair bit of good singing. Everyone is welcome! Get ready for the Lenten season that begins the next day on Ash Wednesday by having some fun with your friends on “Fat Tuesday.”

Pancakes are traditional fare for Shrove Tuesday, as Christians preparing to fast throughout the season of Lent wanted to enjoy rich, tasty ingredients like eggs, butter, and milk as much as they could before the long weeks of fasting and penitence ahead.

Also, who doesn’t love pancakes for dinner?

This is a traditional CHS event, sponsored by the Church School, with significant support from the Youth Group. Please bring your palms from last year if you have them.

Behind The Smile – Pot Luck Luncheon at CHS

Behind the SmileAll are welcome to join the parish of Church of the Holy Spirit at a pot luck luncheon on Sunday, February 17 at noon in the parish hall at 204 Monument Road in Orleans.

Peter Brenner, author of¬†Behind The Smile: Orphaned by Hitler’s Madness will be with us to share his story. He was born during the winter of 1944 to an unwed, frightened 17-year old Norwegian girl on the war-torn soil of Germany. Unknowingly, she was part of Himmler’s Lebensborn Program intended to cultivate an Aryan race. Five years and three orphanages later, he was brought to America and adopted by an Air Force chaplain.

Bring a dish to share. The main course will be provided. If your last name begins with the letters A-H, please bring a vegetable or side dish. If your last name ends with the letters I-O, please bring a dessert. Those with a last name ending in the letters P-Z are encouraged to bring a salad.

Questions? Please call Elizabeth Merritt at 508-240-6998 or Jody Mines at 508-255-4058. This event is sponsored by the Church of the Holy Spirit Shepherd Groups.
