Announcements July 6 – 12

Sunday, July 7:  ADULT EDUCATION – in the Fireplace Room, 9 am. We continue with Genesis. It’s an engaging, demanding, puzzling, and sometimes disturbing text. But it’s also a very rich one, with so much to reflect on, that invites us into the heart of things in many ways. This is a lively, interactive Bible study, led by Adam+. No homework required! Just come, in spirit, mind, and heart.

Sunday, July 7Youth breakfast:  After the 10 am service please join us in the Parish Hall for another wonderful brunch prepared and served by our youth group.

Sunday, July 7: The Book Discussion Group:  We will continue reading “Rabbi Jesus” this Sunday in the Fireplace Room after the 10 am service. We hope to finish the book reading chapters 13 and 14. Brian and Brooke Skea

An Invitation from our Music Director – Joan Kirchner:  Summer is a great time to join in with our fabulous choir! Come to the church any Sunday at 9 am and we will provide you the music to sing with us at the 10 am service! We will also be featuring some soloists, both vocal and   instrumental. Interested? Friday, July 12:  We’ll have our July Garden Party from 8:30 am to noon. There’ll be the usual weeding and trimming so please bring your clippers and something to collect your weeds in. Regular and decaf coffee, Hole in One donut holes and cold water will be provided.

Sunday, July 21:  “Sundae Sunday” – Weather permitting we will gather in the memorial garden, after the 10 am service, to enjoy ice cream and homemade chocolate sauce, whipped cream and sprinkles! Too wet or too hot, we will see you in the Parish Hall. Also, please mark your calendars for another DELICIOUS “Sundae Sunday” on August 18…Yum!!

Veggie Tale Summer Theatre:  Available every Sunday in the Creation Room all summer at 9:45 am. Snacks included. All ages welcome. Children will join families in church around 10:40 am. Nursery Care available 9:30-11:30 am every Summer Sunday in Nursery under the Parish Hall across from Creation Room.

News from Food 4 Kids:  Food4Kids wishes to thank all of you have signed up to volunteer with us this summer, but we still have many openings. Visit our website at Food4KidsCapeCod.org to sign up. We still need help preparing the fruit, vegetables, and sandwiches, as well as packing the bags and coolers. A small number of driving opportunities also remain open. If you need assistance with Signup Genius, please call Brenda Ridgeway (207-557-3478).

Nursery Care Help Needed: A paid position is available immediately. Must be 18 years old or older. Love of young children is essential! Please contact Cynthia Murray or Mellissa Keeffe. Come join the Church School team and have fun!

ALTAR FLOWERS:  Please consider a donation for altar flowers! Just fill out an Altar Flowers request card, available at all the church entrances. You may choose to do this to remember someone or perhaps to celebrate a special anniversary or birthday.  For a donation of fifty dollars the Flower Guild will purchase and arrange flowers and the name(s) of the loved ones being honored will be noted in the service bulletins of the weekend services of the chosen date.

CHS FEATURED ARTIST: The featured CHS artist for the month of July is Cheryl Kyle.  She appreciates the opportunity to share her paintings with the congregation and friends of The Church of the Holy Spirit. All proceeds from the sales are donated to Endupoto Primary School, a Maasai school with over 573 students in Tanzania, East Africa. FREE SHOP: Your Summer clothing donations are most welcomed. We are open Monday: 12 Noon to 3 pm and Wednesday: 10 am to 1 pm. HEALTH MINISTRIES COMMITTEE:  Summer is here and outdoor safety precautions are back. Be it protecting yourself with sunscreen, wearing your helmet when cycling, or being mindful of the area you are swimming in, please protect yourself and those around you. READING FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH ON TUESDAY MORNINGS: Our reading group is taking the summer off and will resume meeting September 3rd and then on the first and third Tuesday of each month in the Parish Library from 10 am to noon. We discuss books we have chosen that relate to our spiritual journeys. On September 3, we will begin to discuss Holy Envy by Barbara Brown Taylor. Our time together includes worship and “checking in” on what’s going on in our lives while nurturing our spiritual gardens, weeds included! Summer Hosts Needed: The Refugee Support Team (Nauset Interfaith Association) is seeking hosts for this summer’s Welcome Weekends for refugee families. Providing joyful mini-vacations at the Cape for refugees is only one part of this; more important is sharing and learning with persons whose stories are remarkable. The two weekends chosen for this year are:  July 12-14 and August 9-11.
