Announcements February 23 – March 1

PLEASE NOTE:  On March 2, our Saturday service will move to 5 pm until November 2.  Daylight Savings:  2 am on Sunday, March 10,  remember to “Spring forward”.

Sunday, February 24:  ADULT EDUCATION –  in the Fireplace Room, 9 am.  We continue working our way through Paul’s First Letter to the Corinthians.  This is a lively, interactive Bible study, led by Adam+.  No homework required!  Just come, in spirit, mind, and heart.

Sunday, February 24: The Book Discussion Group – We will meet in the Fireplace Room after the 10 am service. We will continue reading Brueggemann’s Gospel of Hope. We plan to begin our Lenten reading of Walter Wink’s The Powers that Be on Sunday March 10. Brian and Brooke Skea.

Sunday, February 24:  The Orleans Shepherd Group will meet on Sunday, February 24 at 5:30 pm at Anne and Steve Koehler’s home: 14 Cheney Road, East Orleans.  508-255-0433.

Friday, March 1:  World Day of Prayer takes place internationally on the first Friday of March every year. This year the Community of Jesus at Rock Harbor will be the host church with a service at 1 pm. The host country is Slovenia. The focus is on Jesus’ parable of the Great Dinner (Luke 14:15–24) with the theme “Come – Everything is Ready”. The women of Slovenia challenge us all to widen our circles, to expand our communities.

Sunday, March 3:  YOUTH SUNDAY AND BREAKFAST – Our Youth Group will be serving biscuits and gravy at the Youth Brunch and pancakes at the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper, to be held at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, March 5.  Come and help us celebrate our last day of Epiphany and to “bury the Alleluias” in preparation for Lent.  Bring a dessert if you can. Need a ride? Let one of the church school team or the office know so that someone can pick you up.

Wednesday, March 6:  Ash Wednesday services (Eucharist with Imposition of Ashes): 7:30 am, spoken service; 10 am, service with hymns; 7 pm, choral service.

Thursday, March 7:  Ladies Luncheon we meet at 12 Noon in the Parish Hall. Bring a sandwich to share. Being the day after Ash Wednesday, the mood may be more somber, but the outreach, conversation, and caring will be there. Our committee is: Chips: Ginny Lucil; Table decorations: Fay Cole; Paper goods: Georgia Schneider; 1/2 &1/2 and lemon; Jane Affleck: Juice; Marge Farrell; and Dessert: Diana Crighton. See you on the 7th. Consider bringing something for babies in support of the ABC (A Baby Center).

Upcoming Labyrinth Lenten Walks and Events:  On Fridays, March 15, 22, 29 and April 5, & 12 our small labyrinth will be set up in the Parish Hall for people to drop by and walk from 10 am to 12 Noon. There will be a guided walk using our larger labyrinth on Good Friday.  Look for the time for that walk on our Holy Week Service Schedule.

Lenten Sabbath Quiet Day:  Saturday March 16, 9:30, 1 pm in the Parish Hall. Our quiet day for Lent will focus on living into Sabbath time. We will be using our labyrinth, taking time for silence, for mediation and scripture, and reflection. We will also be exploring using Anglican Prayer beads.  Our day will end with a simple Contemplative Eucharist. A simple lunch of soup and bread will be provided.  Please sign up on the signup sheet in the reception room. Questions please contact the office or Gail Smith+.

Saturday, March 16: Our 5 pm Service will be held in the Parish Hall, and our small labyrinth will be a part of the service.

Sunday, March 31: Choral Evensong, at 5 pm. The CHS Choir, under the leadership of our Music Minister, Joan Kirchner will offer a special Evensong featuring Anglican choral classics of the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries.  This classic, “Rite I” service will also feature Adam Linton+ performing a short re-enactment of a portion of one of the sermons of the great English poet and preacher, John Donne.

CHS FEATURED ARTIST:  Our parish Prayer Shawl Ministry is the featured display in the reception room during the month of February where you will see the lovely shawls we have knitted for parishioners in need of warmth and loving comfort.  If you wish to take a shawl to a  parishioner, they are available in the church office. Debbi Manning will show you the array of choices and ask you to sign out a shawl. We have also knitted baby blankets for new infants. All the shawls and blankets have been blessed by Adam+. While you are in the Gallery – sign up to exhibit/sell your art/craft/gift for one month in 2019. Set up the first day of the month, take down the last day the month. Art is a tradition at CHS!

COFFEE HOUR HOSTS:  Please signup on the posted sheet in the Parish Hall. The beverages are provided, you just need to bring something of your choice to go with them! Thank you to those of you who have helped out with Coffee Hour, to keep this fellowship going.

FREE SHOP: Your Winter clothing donations are most welcomed. We are open Monday: 12 Noon to 3 pm and Wednesday: 10 am to 1 pm. The shop is open to the public on Sundays from 11:15 am to 12 Noon and on Mondays from 10 am to 1 pm, except on Holidays. Please stop by, browse, and shop for yourself, family, and friends.
